Do's

  • Eat a balanced diet.
  • Reduce the amounts of carbs in your diet, especially simple carbs like sugars and processed carbohydrates, e.g. cookies.
  • Continue to eat whole grain and fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Keep a regular diet journal.
  • Look for healthy low carb snacks and foods in the health food sections of your favorite grocery store.
  • Make sure to check with your physician to make sure a low carb diet is a healthy choice for your needs.

Don'ts

  • Don't cut out carbs completely.
  • Don't expect this to be a long-term solution. It isn't practical to cut an entire food group out of a diet. You should plan on finding a way to develop a healthy diet that will enable you to eat a balanced healthy diet with all food groups in moderation.
  • Don't cut out complex carbohydrates such as whole grain breads, cereals, etc. These have beneficial nutrients and their roughage is also helpful in preventing constipation.
